Kenneth Facen, #55

Kenneth Facen, 22
Killed 6/30/07 2:55 pm
2700 block of 77th Av
Gun

"What's going on here?"
Well, isn't that just what we all want to know? In this case, the question was uttered by an OPD officer with an assault rifle. I had just arrived at this site, chatting with a couple guys on the corner, when about 6 police cruisers pulled up and a swarm of officers got out with shotguns drawn. Apparently, they had received a report of an individual with a gun. "Please stand to the side and don't move". I was happy to oblige, especially since they decided to handcuff the other two guys I was talking with and place them in the patrol cars "for their safety". A group of women then approached & started talking about the situation: "We are just trying to mourn our loved one. That's not a crime!" We started talking and they were quite appreciative when I pointed out the obvious difference in treatment I recieved from the officers as a white man. After getting some good pix of OPD's weapons arsenal, I decided to move on to the next homicide location. No rest for the weary, indeed...

Sounds like a surreal experience. Hopefully the police had the best interests of the other guys involved when they put them in the car but it does sound strange. It would be interesting to see your other photos from this encounter.

They could sue OPD because once they put handcuffs on an individual it's considered an arrest and they can't handcuff anyone unless their arresting & charging them for a crime. I got $10,000.00 for that in a suit.

i went to high school with kennyman..i was browsing across pages on myspace and seen an obituary with his face..im like no way....i never knew this site even existed..it's sad whats going on with our community...ive lost so many classmates from high school and i've only been out since 03..i lost a brother due to violence...i lost friends due to violence..give the young people something to do..jobs/places to live/ places to go..give them someone to talk to..don't always have the mentality like everyone is out to get you (OPD)..because a lot of innocent people are hurting right now...

It's not considered an arrest when you handcuff someone. Gotta love street lawyers.

I played basketball with KenMan on the Oakland Bruins and the Oakland Spartans traveling team. Just to tell you how good he was, Ken was in the 5th grade ballin with 7th and 8th graders! Damn. Love you bruh. Rest easy. Watching USA basketball made me think of him so I googled his name to see if I could see a pic of him. I hate the world we live in sometimes.
