Oakland police spokesman Roland Holmgren said Dana Stell, 47, of Berkeley was the woman stabbed to death in a motel on San Pablo Avenue early Sunday morning.
Stell was found suffering from multiple stab wounds in a room on the first floor of the Chaparral Motel at 5425 San Pablo Ave. around 3 a.m. Sunday after police received a call reporting a fight in the room, said Holmgren. She was later pronounced dead at Highland Hospital in Oakland.
Bhavik Patel, who lives at the 19-room, $35-a-night motel with his father, the manager, told The Chronicle on Sunday that the room where Stell was killed had been rented since Thursday by a man and a woman who listed an address in Arlington, Texas. Patel said he had not heard anything unusual until police arrived.
